Michael A. Abrahams, MD
Dr. Abrahams has been a leader and an integral member of our Gynecology team since 1996. Board Certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology, he also specializes in Gynecological surgery. Although he has delivered a large majority of babies for our BWS patients he is now solely practicing gynecology with a special interest in menopause management. Dr. Abrahams recently received certification from the North American Menopause Society as a menopause practitioner.
Dr. Abrahams received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1990. He completed his residency at Maimonides Medical Center from 1990-1993 and was senior resident at Beth Israel Hospital-Harvard Medical School from 1993-1994. Dr. Abrahams also completed a Fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Gynecological Surgery and Oncology from 1994-1995. Dr. Abrahams recently became an NAMS Certified Practitioner in Menopause.

Ronald J. Berka, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Berka has recently joined the BWS team of professionals as a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Most recently, he was the Associate Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx. Prior to this position, he was the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the United States Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.
Dr. Berka received his Medical Degree from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn in 1992, and completed his residency at Northwestern University Memorial Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois in 1996. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since November, 1999.

Mahsa Hosseini, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology
Dr. Mahsa is a new member of the BWS team. She received her Medical Degree in 2003 from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She completed her residency in 2007 at Maimonides Medical Center and is currently an Attending Physician there.
Dr. Mahsa provides a full scope of gynecological services, including female reproductive health issues that include sexually transmitted diseases, menstrual issues, disease of the breasts, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries as well as fertility problems, premenstrual syndrome and menopause-related issues.

Janet Rubinstein, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology
A Board Certified Gynecologist, Dr. Rubinstein joined us in 1998, where she has built up a strong practice and is an important part of our team.
Dr. Rubinstein received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1978 and her residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1978-1982.

Amebreen Sleemi, MD, MPH, Urogynecology
Dr. Sleemi joined BWS in 2007. She specializes in cystitis and vaginal pain syndromes, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence, vesicovaginal and rectovaginal fistulas and general pelvic wellness. Dr. Sleemi wishes to bring awareness to pelvic disorders and treatments within the Brooklyn community.
Dr. Sleemi received her Medical Degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1996. She is currently an Attending Physician at Maimonides Medical Center’s Center for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Dr. Sleemi has an interest in international women’s health specifically obstetric birth trauma, fistulas and traumatic gynecological injuries to female victims of war crimes.

Mattie Gelbfish, RPA-C, MS, Urogynecology Physician’s Assistant
Mattie joined BWS in September of 2009. She is a graduate of Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School PA Masters Program and completed the Physician’s Assistant Program at Long Island University in 1998. She is a member of NCCPA and AAPA.
Alana Fiorentino, Registered Dietician
Alana Fiorentino, RD is a new addition to the Brooklyn Women’s Services staff. She is a graduate of New York University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed a dietetic internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan during which she gained extensive experience using medical nutrition therapy to treat both adults and children with chronic and acute medical conditions. Alana has led numerous successful community weight loss programs and has been conducting nutritional wellness workshops at Brooklyn Women’s Services since 2010. She specializes in weight management, diabetes, heart disease, and general wellness.
